Installation of manufactured stone over extruded polystyrene foam
Installation of manufactured stone veneer over extruded polystyrene foam
The facade of your house can not only be embellished with our manufactured stone, but, if necessary, it can be insulated.
For your information:
50 mm thick polystyrene foam replaces brickwork of up to 400 mm thick.
If you need to insulate your facade with polystyrene foam and face it with stone veneer, then we are offering you our help as well as recommendations.
- Extruded polystyrene foam should be attached to the wall with special adhesive for polystyrene foam and dowel-nails for insulation. A sheet of extruded polystyrene foam is dotted with the glue (in 6 -7 places). After that the sheet is pressed against the wall. To fix it securely, the sheet is strengthened by dowel-nails (using 7 - 8 dowel-nails per square meter), as it will carry the load of the stone’s weight. Be careful: direct exposure to sunlight has a harmful effect on polystyrene foam. That is why the installation must be done promptly.
- The sheet of extruded polystyrene foam should be covered with facade fiberglass mesh and coated with special adhesive for polystyrene foam.
- After completing these steps, it is time to start facing the surface with manufactured stone veneer. The glue is applied to the back surface of the stone, then leveled with a notched trowel. The stone is pressed against the wall in rubbing motion for better fixation.
- The revetted surface should be treated with hydrophobic coating, for example, protective impregnation with the effect of a "wet" or "natural" stone.
Thus, manufactured stone veneer will not only decorate your house, but also will serve as an excellent protection for the insulation for many years.
